St Patrick’s day came and went. It was a long Bank Holiday weekend. It never ceases to amaze me that we have shamrock as a national symbol, synonymous with St Patrick. Now I thought, for centuries, a lot of people have been smoking weed as a past time and here we are in Ireland wearing it on our lapels, displaying it with pride on every nook and cranny, banners and all. I wonder what it says about ourselves to the rest of the world. Is there a reason for god creating this island of ours and pushing it away from the rest of mankind, sorry humankind?

I had to work. Bills have to be paid and Wilson Sporting Goods were naïve enough to hire me as a technical manager for their golfing division in Ireland. There was a public golf show held at the RDS in Dublin with the biggest indoor golf range in Ireland in play. A wonderful occasion for over 40,000 people who visited. New product on display, free lessons and all kinds of golf clubs to try out. David Edwards, probably the best trick shot golfer in the world did his fantastic routine every day. Well all in all it was a wonderful weekend for all concerned.

And then it happened again. The dreaded mobile phone started to vibrate. I had to answer. While everyone was out there having fun, there were these guys and their new partners, looking for a listening ear and hoping for some kind of comforting advice about how to deal with the hell that has been created for them, through no fault of their own, after the break up of their relationships.

It beggars belief that after decades of listening to the horror stories of domestic violence inflicted upon innocent women, we seem to have learnt nothing from history. Now there are plenty of known cases of men on whom the ancient art of pugilism is being applied to and practised upon. Oh how life goes full circle. The modern era of Christians and lions in full glory watched by the dimwits to their merriment.

When we talk about human rights why do we always seem to ignore human rights that are being abused on a daily basis inside the sanctity of our home and within the confines of our family environment. I have yet to study a constitution or legislation that states that human rights cease to exist within such a sanctuary. Mad. No I am not mad, I am livid. I am so angry. When the ones who are supposed to lead and protect us are found to be showing such contempt for the masses how would you feel. Yin and Yang come to mind. Now the fools who are scratching their heads thinking Yin and Yang are some famous Chinese brother and sister,  it’s a form of ancient Chinese philosophy. The rest, go and read some books for yourself.

I happened to come across a discussion that was being shown on one of our terrestrial channels. The participants were a well written psychologist, a well known newspaper columnist, a mandatory feminist of repute, a lady representing Barnardo’s and another gentleman who was hosting the programme. Usually I start to exercise the remote control at such instances but something that was said caught my attention. The feminist as a matter of fact stated that fathers spent an average of 11 minutes per day with their family and men were still so powerful. What balderdash. Which planet is she on and if only I could find out what medication she was taking. The hallucigens she has been taking since the sixties must have her stuck in the past. Hey sister, hippy days are gone, come to the 21 century. Are people like her for real?

Let me state just a few facts so that I do not bore you to death. Every politician in the country is scared to death of losing women’s votes, even though privately acknowledging the blatant bias shown against fathers in family courts and the lack of guts among legislators to address this anomaly.

From big businesses to small entrepreneurs, all are afraid to say anything because women are their biggest customer and they do not want to offend them and lose their custom. One big developer stated ’ I sell 200 houses every year. As we all know it’s the women who decide what to buy so I do not want to jeopardise my business by helping you, even though I would very much like to’.

Then a minister of state saying please do not say anything against the women and their causes or all hell will break lose. I could go on for ever. These were all my personal experiences.

Now comes the problem. I have never ever spoken against the women. All I ever said is for the system to be fair to each and everyone, irrespective of their gender or ethnicity. Where did the rest of nonsense come into it. Also I wish the same very people would answer all the ladies who are in desperate need of help whereby the former partners of their current beaus, are making their lives hell while the government in general and the family court system in particular stands by idly. Its this charade of justice that needs to be rectified and brought to its senses. Two minstrels, sorry ministers in the halls of justice and equality and yet, justice and equality is nowhere to be seen. As someone said, “ The politicians politically love children while privately hating them”. What a cracker of a statement. Here is a deep thought. ‘Need to have, than be, is the priority these days’.  It rang my bell, I hope it knocks at your door too.

Every day that goes by,  I receive e mails and calls that surpass the one’s from the day before. Fraud, adultery, deception, cruelty and more. Yet not one person wants to openly tackle this monstrosity. In a court of law not one judge has thus far taken account of the said facts when passing judgements. The weaker sex, there ain’t one. Cheated and manipulated, definitely.

Here is a little gem of a story from BBC on the 28 March. In Suffolk, the one in merry olde England, there is a fully kitted Rugby Union ladies team, supplied with all the fineries. Under equality, provisions had to be made. The comical part. This team does not have a single rugby player. So now they have to actively pursue the provision of players. I wonder the invisible players who lacked such necessities and asked, very politely for the provisions, whatever happened to them. Mind boggles.

I had the pleasure of meeting one of our most senior, respected, intellectual and worldly wise politicians a fortnight ago. I have always been in awe of the said gentleman and of his accomplishments. He agreed with my cause and sentiments wholeheartedly. But something that has left me slightly bemused is a comment that was made. He said and I quote ’Maybe I am just old fashioned’ in response to a question I asked. What I had asked was, ’Why is it that people in his position have yet to speak openly and address the issues of blatant bias displayed by the society in general and the government departments in particular against fathers’.

I have yet to figure out if that was a sigh or was he merely disenchanted with the shannanigans of the modern day political circus. I wonder if to statesmen like him, it seems like a bicycle repair man having to tackle the most modern of automobile engineering. I shudder to think. Times have moved on so fast that either our so called leaders lack the intellect or the will to catch the 21 century train. This journey to nowhere is a frightening prospect.

Some fifty years ago, in a lecture delivered in Trinity College Dublin, Dr. A.L.Goodhart, the then Master of University College, Oxford stated in strong terms the need to regularly review our laws to ensure their relevance to the lives of those governed and I quote,

“The law must, as far as possible, mirror contemporary civilisation and as that changes, so must the law. If the law becomes too rigid and inflexible, then there is always the danger that it will be in conflict with the needs of the people, with all the unfortunate consequences to which such a conflict may give rise”.

Sadly the prophecy has come true. Just look around you and see it in its full glory. Politicians, men and women alike, while clucking like headless chickens have yet to grasp the simple lessons from life. I leave you with this frightening thought. With elections looming beware of the FF (Fiddling Feckers)  and the PD’s (Prima Donna’s). The rest they seem as confused and lost as ever. The phrase the tail wagging the dog often comes to mind. The dog in the manger principle of politics is in full flight. Ironic, would you not agree.
