We offer an accessible, high quality counselling service
Since its inception in June 2005 the charity has dealt with over 2,500 individuals on one to one basis and several thousand enquiries were dealt with through telephone and electronic mail. The need for the under mentioned has been highlighted through published research and our dealings with the public in general and the lack of provision of the same for men in particular.
We offer and provide:
o Office staff of graduates in Counselling, psychology and law
o Counselling. (Hetac accredited counsellors)
o Mediation. (accreditation by Mediation Forum Ireland)
o Suicide prevention
o Domestic violence
o Educational workshops in Mental Health, Family Law and Personal Development
o Mentors Programme
o Outreach workshops
o Workshops with community and health sector employees
o Research facilities to undergratuate and post graduate students in social sciences, family law and occupational therapy
o Referrals to appropriate professionals and government departments
o Public awareness seminars for public and professionals
o Input into development and reform of law (Law Reform Commission)
o Links with Galway Volunteer Centre, Community Knowledge Initiative NUI Galway, HSE West Health Promotion, City of Galway VEC, Galway City Partnership....
We have provided such services to students from NUI Galway, UCC, Trinity, DIT, GMIT, GTI, University students societies, Global Rights Alliance, HSE family resource centre,The Third Programme of Law Reform, Irish Army, Galway diocese formation of priests conference 2010, Galway diocese, Domestic Violence Response, Refugees, Adult education and many more……
All services are provided in one to one and group settings while support is also made available through electronic mail and lo call phone service
For the first time in Ireland ‘Father’s day’ was celebrated live on air as broadcast from our offices by Galway Bay fm in 2009
‘Families, Fathers & Friends’ keeps a watching brief on family law issues and developments in the family law system, especially where they affect fathers. Occasionally, we make policy submissions on the changes we believe will ensure that mothers and fathers have equal standing and respect.
